This one-day event featured works by ten participants aged 62 to 90, highlighting their dedication and passion for various art forms. Family members, friends, and art enthusiasts gathered to admire the vibrant displays, creating an atmosphere filled with festivity, laughter, and heartfelt admiration.

Jeanne Bennett, an artist with over five captivating paintings, including a lifelike depiction of her family’s dog and vibrant acrylic plants, found solace in these weekly sessions. For Bennett, the art classes serve as a sanctuary where she can immerse herself in creativity. Another participant, Janice Campbell, eagerly anticipates Wednesdays, dedicating this day to painting and relaxation. Angela Mitchell’s macramé wall hanging, adorned with intricate knots and coloured beads, was a standout piece at the exhibition. Mitchell’s journey into textile art began when she signed up for crochet classes but soon discovered the allure of macramé. Her work exemplifies the skill and precision developed through consistent practice and guidance. The exhibition also included a video slideshow featuring ceramic creations by Falmouth participants, underscoring the diverse curriculum offered by Golden Designs.Fostering Creativity and Building Community
Laura Lee Jones, head of the applied arts department at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts, delivered a powerful address on the significance of creative ageing. She emphasized how seniors engaging in the arts contribute to a more inclusive society, breaking down social barriers and fostering mutual respect across generations. Art provides a platform for seniors to express their opinions, engage in activism, and address social issues through unique perspectives.The showcase not only celebrated the achievements of these senior artists but also inspired attendees to embrace the arts. Several new enrolments were made on the spot for the upcoming term in 2025, demonstrating the profound impact of this event.
